Chamber Strings
The Chamber Strings Group consists of 15 members and was started in 2006. This group comprises senior musicians from the Johannesburg Youth Orchestra and alumnus. They range in age from approximately 18 - 27 years old. They play a wide and varied repertoire, from Baroque to Modern.
Members of the Youth Orchestra formed chamber groups such as string quartets and trios, and wind trios in 2005 and they are still going strong in 2009.
These groups have been popular for corporate functions and social events such as weddings. A portion of the fee is paid to players to promote entrepreneurship amongst the older players, while a percentage is held for the purchase of music for the groups.
Any string player who as achieved Grade 7 is welcome to audition to join the group.
